How to make anything a stream redeem

Connecting fun devices to stream can make your stream more interactive and incentivize donations.

With this set up you will be able to connect any electronic device to turn on as a reaction to something that happens on stream (donation, raid, follow, message, etc.)

Examples of devices you can add: water cannon, ping pong ball launcher, leaf blower, lights, nerf gun.

The only restrictions on devices is that the device needs to have the desired effect when it is delivered power. That is, something that has a switch that can be left in the “on” position and when it’s plugged in, will turn on and have the effect you want to be redeemed on stream.

Here’s a video of this setup in action:

Here’s an overview of how everything gets connected:

In the diagram above, streamer.bot is listening for an action on your twitch channel. It will then send a command to lumia stream which turns on the smart plug, powering your device. (The AC/DC converter shown above is only required if your device runs on batteries)

Things you’ll need

  • Device you want to trigger - to give you some ideas: water bucket, ball pitcher, ping pong machine, leaf blower, fan, lights, nerf gun, cement mixer (for vibrations), drill (for pool noodle slapper)

  • Smart plug compatible with Lumia stream - check the Lumia website for compatibility, but the product I use is the Kasa HS103P4

  • Streamer.bot software installed - make sure you’re signed into your twitch account and that Lumia is connected

  • Lumia stream software installed - make sure you’re signed into your twitch account

Setting up the smart Plug

Set up the smart plug by following the directions on the Kasa home mobile app, make sure it can turn on and off with your phone before continuing. You can even test it first by plugging something into it and trying to turn it on and off using the mobile app.

Lumia Stream

First, make sure you’re connected to your Twitch channel

Then, make sure the smart plug can be detected by Lumia stream by going to connections

Now we need a way for the smart plug to be triggered. We’ll do this by setting up a chat command in Lumia stream (there are other ways to do this in Lumia, however I find this to be the most controllable way)

Make the chat command something intuitive like !pingpong

Now, we’ll add a start and end action for this chat command - we want the plug to turn on when the chat command is sent, and turn off after a set amount of time.

We can finish by testing our new chat command in our twitch chat and testing to see if the plug is turning on and off with the command.

Streamer Bot

Now that we have our chat command in Lumia, we need a way for the command to trigger whenever someone cheers bits.
